Militant group conducts rally in Angeles City on Labor Day; Peacekeeping polices forces deployed in Central Luzon
Mon Lazaro May 2, 2024 at 05:53 PMCAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Central Luzon Police Office has deployed 3,291 personnel throughout the region to oversee the mass actions organized by labor and political groups in commemoration of Labor Day on May 1.
Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., regional police director of Region 3, said that around 50 members of the Kilusan Para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KPD) from Bataan province has assembled around 8:00 am to 9:00 am yesterday along Miranda Street near San Nicholas Market in Barangay San Nicholas, Angeles City to commemorate Labor Day.
The group raised concerns and aired grievances against the current government and eventually dispersed peacefully from the area.
As these developed, Hidalgo said the polices forces that were deployed to various public convergence points such as freedom parks and transportation hubs were ordered to maintain peace and order on the mass actions of militant and political groups.
The mobilized police personnel were given strict directives to adhere to the PNP’s policy of “Maximum Tolerance” when managing mass gatherings and protests.
Meanwhile, the Central Luzon Top Cop also highlighted the ongoing presence of Police Assistance Desks and Motorists Assistance Centers strategically positioned at convergence points including bus terminals, airports, seaports, recreational areas, highways, main thoroughfares, and crime-prone zones.
This enhanced police visibility and support will be maintained until May 31, 2024, in alignment with the “Ligtas Sumvac 2024” campaign to ensure public safety during the summer vacation.
