LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Over a hundred foreign nationals were detained on Saturday after being caught in an illicit online gambling hub in Cebu, according to the Bureau of Immigration.
The operation was conducted in response to a mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco against 13 illegal aliens who were discovered overstaying and operating without a permit at a resort in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.
“During the raid, hundreds of foreign nationals were found to be engaging in illegal online gaming operations on makeshift workstations inside the resort premises,” the BI said in a statement.
An inquest will be held for the foreign nationals who were arrested before they are deported.
Furthermore, Tansingco stated that the resort owners will also face legal action for harboring undocumented foreign nationals.
“We will suggest to the authorities to file cases against resort owners who allow their property to be used by illegal aliens in their covert operations,” Tansingco said.
“This will serve as a warning to those who might attempt to start illegal online gambling operations,” the Immigration commissioner stressed.
