CITY OF MALOLOS — The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon Center for Health Development has revealed that Pampanga recorded the highest number of fireworks-related incidents (FWRIs) in the region during this year’s New Year revelries.
In contrast, Bulacan, a major fireworks producer in Central Luzon, ranked third on the list.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry-Bulacan, the country has 15 licensed fireworks manufacturers, 13 of which are located in Bulacan. Despite this, stakeholders attribute Bulacan’s lower ranking in FWRIs to the province’s “Ingat Paputok” campaign, spearheaded by the Pyrotechnic Regulatory Board (PRB) of Bulacan. This campaign is seen as a proactive alternative to the DOH’s “Iwas Paputok” program.
Based on the DOH report released on Monday, January 6, Central Luzon recorded a total of 82 FWRIs. Pampanga topped the list with 38 cases, followed by Nueva Ecija with 27 and Bulacan with 17. The provinces of Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, and Aurora reported no incidents.
The report further detailed that 69 patients were treated and discharged, eight were admitted to hospitals, two absconded, one died, one refused admission, and one was referred to another hospital.
The most common fireworks involved in these incidents were Kwitis, Boga, Five Star, Flash Bomb, and other unlabelled or imported firecrackers.
