Scout ranger found dead in Bulacan with gunshot wound

SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan—A sergeant of the Philippine Army was found dead in their barracks in this town with a gunshot wound to the head on Thursday (January 9).
A report by Lt. Col. Ronnie Albino, the police chief of this town, identified the victim as Sgt. Henry Espanola, assigned to the Philippine Army’s 6th Scout Ranger Company.
Initial investigations revealed that around 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, the victim was found lifeless in the comfort room on the fourth floor of the retraining barracks of the Philippine Scout Ranger Company in Barangay Tartaro, San Miguel, Bulacan.
The body was discovered by Sgt. Junrey Binonggo, who went to the bathroom to wash his lunch box and was surprised to see two legs protruding from the fourth cubicle.
Sgt. Espanola had a gunshot wound to the head, and his issued firearm, a .45-caliber Rock Island pistol, was found near his body.
Investigators are still determining the motive behind the incident. The Bulacan Provincial Forensic Unit has been requested to process the crime scene.
