BULACAN — Motorists traveling along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on Tuesday evening were met with a bizarre sight when two coffins fell from a delivery van onto the highway near Pulilan, Bulacan.
The incident took place around 7:00 PM near the Candaba 3rd Viaduct, southbound.
According to NLEX Corporate Communications (NLEX-CC), an FB-type delivery van transporting coffins from Pampanga to Marikina City lost its cargo, resulting in the coffins landing on the roadway.
He was driving home with his family when they came across the coffins. “Sa San Fernando po ako galing. Pauwi na po ako ng Pulilan, Bulacan kasama po family ko nung nakita po namin yung mga kabaong,” he added.
“Parang L300 po, nakasakay sa top ‘yung kabaong,” Luartes said, noting that the coffins appeared to have fallen from the delivery van.
Dashcam footage revealed one coffin narrowly missing several vehicles, while the second struck the grille of an SUV.
NLEX Traffic Operations Head Robin Ignacio confirmed that the coffins were empty. “Naitabi naman namin agad and binalikan din nung driver,” he explained.
The driver of the van later returned to the scene and met with the SUV owner at a rest and refuel area to discuss the damage caused by the incident. Ignacio added, “Nag-usap sila doon. Nag-meet sila sa isang rest and refuel area namin.” Both parties reached an agreement, and the matter was settled amicably.
Despite the unusual nature of the incident, traffic disruption was minimal. Authorities reminded motorists to ensure proper cargo security to avoid similar occurrences.
