MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte has declined to comment on the impeachment complaint filed against her and approved by the House of Representatives, saying she wants to review the official documents before issuing a response.

“Mahirap mag-react kung hindi natin nababasa kung ano ‘yung official statement nila. Baka masobrahan o magkulang ‘yung reaction. So, kailangan natin antayin,” Duterte said.

“Mahirap ako mag-react pag hindi ko nabasa kasi kung ano sinabi nila. Gusto ko mabasa kung ano ‘yung statement nila ng House,” Duterte stressed.

Last year, the vice president remarked during a press conference, “If I get impeached, then that’s my end,” in response to questions about potential impeachment over her controversial statements and actions.

“Appalled, enraged” Rep. Paolo labels impeachment calls as “politically driven.”

Meanwhile, Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, the vice president’s brother, strongly criticized the impeachment efforts, labeling them as politically motivated.

In a statement, Rep. Duterte expressed outrage, saying, “I am appalled and enraged by the desperate and politically motivated efforts” to remove the vice president from office. He accused lawmakers, led by Rep. Janette Garin, of rushing the process.

“This baseless impeachment case is a clear act of political persecution,” he said, warning of potential public backlash.

Rep. Duterte also referenced the support of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, a politically influential religious group, saying, “If they were unfazed by the over one million rallying supporters of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, then they are blindly marching toward an even greater storm—one that could shake the very foundation of their rule.”

He further warned the Marcos administration, stating, “If the Marcos administration thinks it can push this sham impeachment without consequence, they are gravely mistaken.”

Cutting across party lines, lawmakers have voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte following allegations of misuse of funds, corruption, and betrayal of public trust. The surprise move is widely viewed as a significant escalation in Duterte’s ongoing feud with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., a rift that has kept the country on edge for months.
