Laboratoryo ng halaman, uusbong sa Guiguinto, Bulacan

Nakakagiliw at nakakawala raw ng pagod ang mga halaman kapag tinitignan. Bukod sa napapaganda nito ang kapaligiran, nagpapakalma o nakakatulong din na mawala ang stress ang pag-aalaga ng halaman.

Isa sa certified plantita si Gelyn de Ocampo. Matagal na raw siyang plantita kahit noon pa man na hindi pa nauuso ang nasabing salita. Ito rin daw ang dahilan kung bakit pinasok niya ang negosyo ng pagbebenta ng halaman.

“Hilig ko kasi ang maghalaman. Kaya, naisipan namin magbenta na lang din para dagdag income sa amin,” kuwento ni Gelyn.

Isang taon na niyang pinapatakbo ang Ditche’s Online shop ng mga halaman. Noong una raw ay puro online lang ang kanyang pagbebenta lalo na noong mahigpit pa dahil sa pandemya. Pero dahil lumuwag na ang sitwasyon, tumatanggap na rin daw siya ng mga walk-in.

Nilinaw din ni Gelyn na sumusunod pa rin sila sa mga health protocol. Matatagpuan daw ang kanyang halamanan sa Sta. Rita, Guiguinto.

Ibinahagi ni Gelyn sa Arkipelago News na noong nagsimula ang pandemya, mas dumami pa raw ang kanyang mga parukyano.

“Mas nahilig ang mga tao sa halaman simula nang magpandemic. Kaya mas naging maganda ang bentahan ng mga halaman,” paliwanag niya.

Kilala ang munisipalidad ng Guiguinto sa pagkakaroon ng magagandang halaman. Matatagpuan sa kanilang bayan ang maraming tindahan ng iba’t ibang halaman. Dinarayo ang bayan ng Guiguinto dahil dito. Kaya naman nabansagan itong Garden Capital of the Philippines.

Ipinagdiriwang sa Guiguinto ang Halamanan Festival tuwing Enero. Para kay Gelyn, nakakatulong daw ang nasabing pagdiriwang sa mga may plant business na kagaya niya.

“Napakarami kasing garden shops dito sa aming bayan. Tapos ipinagdiriwang pa namin ang Halamanan Festival na naipopromote ang mga halaman,” dagdag pa niya.

Isa pa sa inaasahang makakatulong sa lalong paglago ng industriya ng halaman ang planong itayong laboratoryo ng mga halaman sa Barangay Sta. Cruz. Tatawagin daw itong The Innovative Tissue Culture Laboratory for Ornamental Plants o iLAB. Isa raw itong proyekto ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at ng pamahalaang bayan ng Guiguinto.

Layunin daw ng iLAB na matulungan ang mga magsasaka at mga naghahalaman sa pagtatanim at pagpapalago ng iba’t ibang halaman.

Magbibigay raw sa iLAB ang Institute of Plant Breeding ng University of the Philippines, Los Baños, ng 32 Hibiscus hybrid o mas kilala sa tawag na gumamela. Gagamitin daw ito para maparami ng mga local farmer ang namumulaklak na halaman sa kanilang lugar.

Makikipag-ugnayan din daw ang iLAB sa Philippine Nuclear Research Institute para magkaroon pa sila ng karagdagang gamit.

Inamin naman ni Gelyn na hindi pa niya nababalitaan ang nasabing proyekto.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano magiging epekto kung maitatayo ang tissue culture lab,” paliwanag niya.

Pero inaasahan daw na malaki ang maitutulong ng iLAB para sa mas masiglang industriya ng halamanan ng bayan. Matatapos daw ang konstruksyon ng iLAB sa taong ito. Tinatayang nasa 2.79 milyong piso raw ang kabuuang budget na inilaan para dito.
