Gusto mo ba ng rabbit meat?

Malinamnam, masustansiya at ligtas kainin. Ganito inilarawan ni DJ de Jesus ang lechon rabbit na kanyang natikman. Dalawang beses na raw siyang nakakain nito at hindi raw siya nagsisisi dahil bukod sa masarap ang rabbit meat, marami rin itong health benefits.

“Napanood ko sa isang international reality TV show noon na kinakain ang rabbit. Kaya nung nakita ko ang isang post na nagtitinda ng lechon rabbit, naisip kong subukan at ipatikim rin sa pamilya ko,” sabi ni DJ.

Ang rabbit meat ay isang klase ng white meat na walang taba, masustansya, mataas sa protina at mababa sa calories.

Kuwento pa ni DJ, lasang manok daw ang rabbit meat kaya hindi nakakapagtakang magustuhan ng maraming tao.

“Sadyang malasa ang rabbit meat. At hindi na kailangan ng kahit anong sauce o sawsawan,” aniya.

Nabili raw niya ang lechon rabbit sa Health Shaker sa Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

Pag-aari ni Aldrin Jonel Sahagun ang lechon rabbit business. Mag-aanim na buwan pa lang daw silang nagbebenta ng rabbit meat. Pero dumarami na rin daw ang bumibili sa kanilang produkto dahil mas marami itong health benefits kumpara sa ibang karne.

“Mas healthy ang lechon rabbit compared sa lechon baboy. Mas mainam itong kainin lalo na kung may high blood. At kung health conscious ka at open-minded pagdating sa mga pagkain, mas pipiliin mo ito,” paliwanag ni Aldrin.

Ayon sa Department of Agriculture (DA), ang rabbit meat ay magandang alternatibo sa karneng baboy dahil sa banta ng African Swine Fever (ASF) at sa kakulangan ng supply ng baboy sa bansa.

“Rabbit is one of the potentials once there is a shortage of pork,” paliwanag ni DA Region 9 Assistant Director Melba Wee sa isang panayam sa Philippine News Agency.

May ilang farm na rin sa Bulacan ang nag-aalaga ng rabbit at ibinebenta ang karne nito sa halagang 400 hanggang 450 pesos kada kilo. Mas mahal ng konti kaysa sa ibang karne pero nakakasiguro ka naman daw sa sustansiya.

Isa sa rabbit farm sa Bulacan ang Republica De Conejos na matatagpuan sa Camangyanan, Sta. Maria. Pagmamay-ari ito ni Jojo Hular. Matagal na raw nag-aalaga ng mga hayop gaya ng parrot, guinea pig at bibe si Jojo. Pero baguhan pa lang daw siyang rabbit breeder.

“Nagsimula kami sa rabbit farming noong August 2020 dahil isa kami sa natamaan ng ASF. At since pinopromote ng DA ang rabbit as alternative meat sa baboy, nag-rabbit farming kami. We found out na maganda naman ang market niya,” pag-amin ni Jojo.

Dagdag pa ng rabbit breeder, mas madaling alagaan at paramihin ang mga rabbit kumpara sa baboy. “At wala pang gaanong sakit ang rabbits,” paliwanag pa niya.

Mas mahal man ang rabbit meat kumpara sa ibang karne, naniniwala sina Jojo at Aldrin na hindi ito hadlang para ipromote ang kagandahan at benepisyo ng rabbit meat.

“Sa ngayon mahal pa po talaga ang rabbit meat dahil sa delicacy pa lang sya. Pero pag marami na kaming farmers, eventually bababa ang price at magiging affordable na siya sa pangkaraniwang tao. Target ng mga cooperative at association na maparami ang farmers at production ng rabbit meat para bumaba ang price locally. May potential rin ang rabbit meat as export product,” paglilinaw ni Jojo.

Sa bayan ng Sta. Maria, tinatayang 70 farms na ang nag-aalaga ng rabbit. Pero sampu pa lang daw sa mga ito ang malalaking farm na may mahigit isandaang inahing rabbit.
