Kneeling Carabao Festival sa Pulilan, Bulacan

Parte na ng tradisyon sa Pulilan, Bulacan ang Kneeling Carabao Festival. Isa raw ito sa mahalagang okasyon sa kanilang bayan na ipinagdiriwang nila taon-taon kaugnay ng kapistahan ni San Isidro Labrador.

Ayon kay Josef Navarro, Municipal Tourism Officer ng Pulilan, hindi sila nagkaroon ng selebrasyon noong isang taon dahil sa pandemya.

“Wala talagang naging celebration. Pero masasabi kong hindi naman namatay ang ideya ng festival. May mga piling indibidwal pa rin na gumawa ng paraan para maipagdiwang ito,” paliwanag ni Josef.

Kasama sa nagsikap na matuloy ang pagdiriwang si Jimwell Tocjayao, isang artist at photographer. Gumawa raw ng animated dioramas si Jimwell gamit ang iba’t ibang materyales gaya ng papel, cardboard at clay.

Isang uri ng sining ang animated diorama na binubuo ng 3D figure na kasing laki ng tao. Napapagalaw ang mga imaheng ito ng mga tao o makina. Ito ang nagsilbing inspirasyon para sa pagdiriwang ng festival ngayong taon.

Ibinahagi ni Josef sa Arkipelago News na mas pinaganda at pinaghandaan nila ang selebrasyon ngayong taon at tinawag nilang Alternative Kneeling Carabao Festival 2021.

“Nandun pa rin ang challenges ng pandemic. Pero ginawa pa rin naming buhay ang festival. Nagkaroon kami ng convergence program kung saan nagtulong ang iba’t ibang sektor ng bayan para mabuo ang programa,” kwento ni Josef.

Bumuo ang bawat barangay ng magaganda at life-size diorama. Ipinapakita raw ng mga ito ang makulay, masaya, at mayabong na pamumuhay ng mga Pulilenyo. Nakakamangha silang pagmasdan kapag gumagalaw.

Ipinaliwanag din ni Josef na nagkaroon sila ng workshop para ituro sa mga Pulilenyo ang tamang pagbuo nito. Si Maestro Rolando De Leon, isang batikang scenographer at national curator, ang nanguna sa pagtuturo na ginanap noong Pebrero.

Noong May 6 nagsimula ang display sa bawat barangay at natapos nito lamang May 12. Pinayagan daw ang mga Pulilenyo na umikot sa iba’t ibang barangay para makita ang bawat diorama. Mahigpit din daw na ipinatupad ang IATF protocol. Sa May 15 naman ang mismong araw ng kapistahan ng kanilang patron na si San Isidro Labrador.

Bukod sa mga animated display, marami pa silang naging programa tulad ng contest para sa mga magsasaka na tinawag nilang “Pinaka Contest” kung saan nagpagalingan ang mga magsasaka sa iba’t ibang kategorya gaya ng may pinakamahabang tanim o pinakamalaking ani.

Tiktok dance interpretation naman ang naging labanan ng mga kabataang mag-aaral. Dito ipinamalas ng mga kabataan ang kanilang galing sa pagsayaw habang ipinapakita ang kanilang sariling interpretasyon ng festival.

Storybook Writing Competition naman ang sinalihan ng mga guro. Sumulat sila ng sariling istorya, gumawa ng video na sila na rin ang tagapagkuwento tungkol sa festival. Nagsuot din sila ng costume at gumamit ng props.

Nagkaroon din ng Kalutong Pulilenyo na taunang isinasagawa. Ibinida nila rito ang masasarap na putahe ng bawat barangay. Ayon kay Josef, nabuo lahat ito sa tulong ng iba’t ibang sektor sa kanilang bayan. Kasama na rito ang Sangguniang Kabataan ng Pulilan, Public Employment Services, Department of Agriculture Pulilan, DepEd Pulilan, at maging ang Pulilan Municipal Police.

“Nagtulong kaming lahat para magkaroon ng selebrasyon dahil gusto naming manatiling buhay ang festival. Dahil nasa Kneeling Carabao Festival ang aming pagiging isang Pulilenyo. Ito ang bumubuo sa aming identity. At naniniwala kami na ang pagdiriwang na ito ay makakatulong sa mental health ng bawat isa lalo na ngayon na humaharap tayo sa matinding pagsubok sa buhay,” sabi ni Josef.
