MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The government has officially rolled out the Net Service Contracting Program, aimed at providing stable income for drivers and operators while ensuring continuous and reliable transport services for commuters.
Under the program, public utility vehicles (PUVs) will be compensated based on the distance they travel, offering a guaranteed income scheme to help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.
The initiative covers buses, modern jeepneys, UV Express, and traditional jeepneys, with fixed per-kilometer payments set by the government.
According to the Department of Transportation, the program is expected to benefit tens of thousands of drivers and operators nationwide, while also serving millions of daily passengers. It also includes fare discounts for commuters, particularly for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
The program is part of broader efforts to sustain public transportation operations amid economic challenges, while easing the financial burden on both drivers and commuters.
Authorities added that the initiative will help maintain mobility, improve service reliability, and support the transport sector as it continues to recover from rising operational costs.
