MANILA — Actress and television host Anne Curtis has spoken out after controversial remarks made by Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay during a congressional hearing sparked backlash online.
The issue began when Suntay mentioned Curtis in what critics described as a lewd analogy during a hearing of the House justice committee. The comment quickly drew criticism from lawmakers, celebrities, and advocacy groups, who said the remark was inappropriate and degrading.
In a statement released on Saturday, Curtis made it clear she does not accept the apology issued by the lawmaker.
“I do not accept your non-apology,” the actress said, adding that she would seek legal advice regarding the incident.
Curtis’ legal counsel also condemned the remarks, calling them “clearly inappropriate and unacceptable.” The lawyers emphasized that no woman—whether a public figure or private citizen—should be subjected to degrading comments in public discourse.
The incident has reignited discussions about respect toward women in public institutions. Several organizations and public figures have since expressed support for Curtis and called for accountability.
The remarks were eventually struck from the official record of the hearing, but the controversy continues to spark conversations about professionalism and gender sensitivity in government proceedings.
