Sinimulan na ang Caloocan Community Pantry

“Hindi kailangang maging mayaman para tumulong. Kailangan lang ng pagmamahal at malasakit sa kapwa,” ito ang tinuran ni Thess Punzalan habang inilalatag niya sa lamesa ang mga pagkaing ipapamigay sa community pantry na itinayo nila ngayong araw, April 17, sa Lungsod ng Caloocan.

Kasama niya sa pagkakawang-gawa ang kanyang mga kamag-anak at kapitbahay. Makikita ang pantry sa 6th Street corner C3 Road sa Lungsod ng Caloocan.

Naging inspirasyon daw nina Thess, isang COVID-19 survivor, ang Maginhawa Community Pantry na sinimulan ni Ana Patricia Non.

Ayon kay Thess, nag-usap daw silang magkakamag-anak at nagkasundong magbigay ng kontribusyon ang bawat isa para masimulan ang pantry.

Alam daw nina Thess na marami ang nawalan ng trabaho at nagsarang negosyo kaya marami ang nagugutom at nahihirapan ngayon. Kaya ito na raw ang tamang panahon para magtulungan.

“Maganda rin na maiparating natin sa mga nangangailangan na huwag mawalan ng pag-asa at patuloy na manalig sa Diyos,” paliwanag ni Thess.

Ilang minuto matapos nilang ilatag ang lamesang naglalaman ng bigas, gulay, delata, kape at biskwit, isa-isa nang nagpuntahan ang mga taong nangangailangan katulad ng mga tricycle driver at mga construction worker sa kalapit na construction site. Natuwa sila sa natanggap na libreng pagkain.

Kasama si Mang Diego sa mga lumapit para kumuha ng bigas at iba pang pagkain. Walang bahay si Mang Diego at nakatira lang siya sa isang kariton na nasa bangketa sa C3 Road. Laking pasasalamat daw niya na kahit papaano ay may makakain siya sa loob ng ilang araw. Sana raw ay marami pa ang magdonate ng pagkain para sa kanila.

Ayon kay Thess, napansin nila na kahit walang-wala si Mang Diego, kumuha lamang siya ng isang kilong bigas, dalawang itlog at isang noodles at kape. Ganito rin daw ang ginawa ng iba pa, kumuha lamang sila ng sapat para sa kanilang pangangailangan.

Inspirado sina Thess nang magligpit sa ganap na 7pm. Maglalatag daw silang muli ng pagkain bukas at sa mga susunod na araw, hanggat may maipapamigay raw. Tuwang-tuwa rin daw sila nang makatanggap sila ng donasyon mula sa isang kilalang abogado na ayaw nang magpabanggit ng pangalan. Marami rin daw ang nagpahayag ng kanilang suporta.

“May magagawa tayong mamamayan. May kapangyarihan tayong baguhin ang kuwento ng ating bayan,” nakangiting sinabi ni Thess.
