DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Angkasangga Party-list has pledged to push for the inclusion of motorcycles in the country’s national transport plan, emphasizing their crucial role in improving mobility and creating economic opportunities for informal workers.

During the 29th National Convention of the Kababayan Riders Association for a New Cultural Harmony and Order Inc. (KARANCHO) on January 25 in Davao City, Angkasangga Party-list First Nominee and Angkas CEO George Royeca reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocating for riders and informal workers.

“Our goal is to integrate motorcycles more comprehensively into the national transport plan. Doing so will lead to greater economic opportunities for informal workers and uplift the lives of our tricycle drivers, vendors, and freelancers,” Royeca said.

He highlighted the importance of motorcycles in addressing transportation challenges, particularly in underserved areas, where they provide an affordable and reliable mode of transport for workers who are often the primary earners in their families.

“We believe that motorcycles are essential in addressing transportation challenges, especially in underserved areas, as they provide affordable and dependable means of mobility, especially for our workers who serve as breadwinners,” he added.

Advocating for Informal Workers

Beyond transportation, Angkasangga has vowed to fight for the rights and welfare of informal workers in Congress, pushing for key labor reforms such as paid sick leave, government-mandated benefits, and accident insurance for members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA).

Royeca emphasized that addressing public transportation issues, job creation, and worker protection are among the party’s top priorities.

Celebrity Endorsement from Vice Ganda

Popular television and movie personality Vice Ganda has also publicly endorsed Angkasangga, voicing support for its advocacy to protect and uplift breadwinners in the informal sector.

“Sa dami ng pinagdaanan ninyo sa pagsuporta sa pamilya niyo, kailangan niyo ng kasangga na proproteksyunan at susuportahan kayo. At ‘yan ang 107 Angkasangga,” Vice Ganda said, praising Royeca’s strong commitment to representing workers.
