Inanunsyo ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na magagamit na ang kalsada sa Skyway na magdurugtong sa C3 Road sa Caloocan City at España sa lungsod ng Maynila bago dumating ang Holy week sa Abril. Ininspeksyon nina DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Jose Luigi Bautista, at Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation President Rodrigo Franco, ang limang kilometrong kalsada na may apat na lane noong March 1.

Inaasahang makakatulong ito sa pagpapabuti ng daloy ng trapiko sa Caloocan at iba pang karatig lungsod.

“We are targeting to open the España Section before Holy Week to help decongest vehicular traffic in Metro Manila especially to and from the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela (Camanava) area,” ayon kay DPWH Secretary Bonoan.

Paliwanag pa ng DPWH, kapag nakumpleto na ang NLEX-SLEX Connector Road, pagkokonektahin nito ang NLEX Segment 10 at ang dulo ng Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 sa may Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) sa Sta. Mesa. Ang dating dalawang oras na biyahe mula sa SLEX-Alabang papunta sa NLEX-Balintawak ay magiging twenty (20) minutes na lang.

“Construction of the second section stretching from España Boulevard to Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta Mesa is being fast-track to provide trucks with an alternative route from the ports to the south and improve connectivity between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Clark International Airport,” ani Secretary Bonoan.

Ang P23.2-billion NLEX-SLEX Connector Road ay proyekto ng Philippine Government sa pamamagitan ng DPWH at Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), sa ilalim ng Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program. Itinayo ito sa lupa ng Philippine National Railways (PNR).
