MALABON — The historic San Bartolome Church in Malabon experienced significant flooding due to the broken Malabon-Navotas navigational floodgate and the enhanced southwest monsoon rains brought by Typhoon Carina on Thursday, July 25.

Santos added.
Currently, volunteers are assisting in pumping out the water and rearranging the pews to their original locations. The parish staff reports that the flood is already starting to recede.

The church in Malabon was consecrated to St. Bartholomew the Apostle in 1614 after being founded in 1599 as a Vista of Tondo. The current church was redesigned in neoclassical style in 1861 and was rebuilt to its present state in the 1950s after being devastated by bombs during World War II.
Recently, the church was praised by the National Museum of the Philippines as an “Important Cultural Heritage.”
