Massive marijuana plantation destroyed in Kalinga anti-drug operation

QUEZON CITY — A large-scale marijuana plantation spanning over 7,600 square meters was destroyed during a day-long eradication operation conducted by the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) and its partner agencies in Barangay Butbut Proper, Tinglayan, Kalinga.
According to reports from PNP-DEG Officer-in-Charge Police Colonel Rolando B. Cuya, Jr., operatives from the Special Operations Unit – Cordillera Administrative Region (SOUs-CAR), in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Kalinga, Provincial Intelligence Unit/Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Kalinga PPO, and Tinglayan Municipal Police Station, launched the operation at around 6:00 AM and completed it by 5:00 PM.
Authorities successfully uprooted and destroyed approximately 76,000 fully grown marijuana plants, with an estimated total street value of ₱15,200,000. The uprooted plants were immediately burned on-site, following procedures outlined under Section 21 of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The destruction was properly documented and witnessed by representatives from the participating units.
No cultivators were apprehended during the operation, but police officials vowed to intensify efforts to identify those responsible for the illegal plantation.
The PNP-DEG emphasized its continued commitment to eradicating illegal drug activities and strengthening operations in known cultivation areas.
