Marikina pet lovers applaud new pet park, free vaccinations

Arkipelago News February 28, 2025 at 12:01 PM

MARIKINA CITY – Pet owners in Marikina City are celebrating the recent establishment of Paws @ Play Marikina Pet Park, a dedicated outdoor space where their furry companions can exercise, socialize, and play safely.

The initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Marcy Teodoro and 1st District Representative Maan Teodoro, has been warmly received by residents, who now have a secure and spacious area to bring their pets. The park, located beside City Hall, is designed to accommodate pets of all sizes.

“Meron tayong ginawang pet park para maiparamdam din natin sa ating mga pet ang alagang Marikina,” Rep. Teodoro said, emphasizing the city’s commitment to animal welfare.

Pet Owners Express Gratitude

Residents who have already visited the park expressed their joy and appreciation for the local government’s efforts.

“Actually, super happy po. Kasi before, naglalakad lang po kami. Paglakad namin dito from Kalumpang, meron na pala nito,” one pet owner shared, noting how the park provides a much-needed space for dogs to run and play freely.

Another resident highlighted the benefit of having a larger, open space, especially for bigger dogs.

“Kasi usually po iyong iba, maliit lang. E pag malalaki po yung dog, parang ano, hindi po sila nakakapag-exercise. So, I’m very much happy,” she said.

Aside from the park’s spacious design, another pet owner expressed relief that the facility is fully enclosed, making it a safer environment compared to walking pets along busy streets.

“Importante sa akin ito kasi nung walang ganito, nilalakad ko lang sa kalsada iyong isang pet ko. Hindi po safe, kaya sa akin importante yung mga ganito. Salamat talaga sa pagpapagawa para sa pet lovers,” he shared.

More Than Just a Park: Free Anti-Rabies Vaccinations

Beyond providing a recreational space, the Marikina City government is also reinforcing responsible pet ownership through free daily anti-rabies vaccinations across all barangays. Pet registration is also being offered to ensure both pets and residents’ safety.

Rep. Teodoro encouraged pet owners to register their pets with the City Veterinary Office (CVO), where they can receive vaccination cards to track their pets’ immunization schedules.

By taking these steps, Marikina City continues to establish itself as a pet-friendly community, ensuring that both pets and their owners enjoy a safe and healthy environment.

For Marikina’s pet lovers, Paws @ Play is more than just a park—it’s a symbol of the city’s dedication to its four-legged residents.
